Description: The Human Rights Project of the Urban Justice Center (HRP)
seeks one full-time undergraduate intern for the summer of 2008 to help us
advocate for New York City's most vulnerable across a range of issues. The
intern will provide organizational and documentation support for a project
located in the West Harlem, and in return will learn a great deal about how
the human rights framework can be used locally.
The intern should have a strong desire to support social justice movements
in the community. In terms of technical skills, the intern should be able to
use digital and video cameras to conduct interviews with youth in the West
Harlem. The intern should also be able to use Microsoft Office, e.g. Word,
Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook. We are looking for someone who likes
to work with young people and with a good sense of humor.
HRP represents a unique model of human rights organizing because we work in
collaboration with local organizations to attain proactive changes in
securing human rights for all New Yorkers. In particular, HRP advances human
rights in the U.S. through organizing, documentation, and education.
Ultimately, HRP serves as a link between organizations and activists using
human rights as the common thread.
