The University of Akron seeks a scholar in Cultural Anthropology at
the assistant or associate professor level to start in Fall 2009. The
successful candidate will have expertise in political economy, urban
anthropology or cultural theory. Geographic area of specialization is
open. Candidates must have an active research agenda with the
potential to involve undergraduates. Evidence of excellence in
teaching is required. Ph.D. in Anthropology is also required. Formal
methods training that adds expertise to the range of our faculty will
be favored. The department has a growing tradition of undergraduate
research through community-based research and service-learning. Clear
potential to contribute to this emphasis is a plus. Responsibilities
include teaching introductory and upper-division undergraduate
courses, departmental and university service, and
research/scholarship. In addition to any university start-up funds,
the department provides endowed research support of $30,000 over the
first 3 years. Salary and rank commensurate with record. Review of

position is filled. Preliminary interviews will be held at the AAA
