Subject: Summer NEOCEx workshop information

Hello all,

I have the materials online for application for the NEOCEx summer PD
workshops for chemistry and physics teachers:
http://www2.uakron.edu/genchem/neocex/
Please feel free to go ahead and advertise this as widely as you wish!

Applicants should print the forms and send them in by mail or fax to the

NEOCEx office at the address on the web site. Teachers can apply for
one or both workshops. Each workshop carries 2 graduate credit hours
from UA (which will be 500-level chemistry course numbers). Tuition has

been donated by UA's Graduate School, but the participants will have to
pay the fees (~$75ish is my understanding). Upon successful completion
of the workshop, participants will be eligible to receive a $150 stipend

per workshop which can be used to pay these fees and for other purposes
to support the participant's teaching.
Participants will be eligible to earn 2 additional credit hours from
Miami through iDiscovery. These credit hours are fully funded--no
additional expense! All they will need to do is participate in the
online activities during the school year. iDiscovery representatives
will visit each workshop on the Friday before lunchtime to get people
set up. I will work with the school-year follow-up on this.

The facilitators as of right now are:
Chemistry--Sherri Lovelace-Cameron and Diana Williams
Physics--Sue Ramlo and Jeff Shane
I will be floating throughout and will help some; I will also be doing
administrative stuff on the workshops throughout the weeks. My graduate

student, Adessa Butler, will be doing research related to the workshops
and will likely play a combined participant observer/facilitator role
throughout.

The course number for the physics workshop hasn't been entered yet by
the Chemistry Department, but it will be soon--that is OK because we are

going to register everyone in a big batch anyway as the date gets
closer. That way we don't have early registrants getting hit with late
fees or having to pay fees out of pocket now and not getting the stipend

check until August. Registering everyone at once closer to the workshop

date will make the fees due later. :)

I hope you can spread the word. Thanks!
Bill
