Quick reminder that November's meeting is Monday Nov. 14 at YSU Ward-Beecher room 2026. We'll start around 7 as usual. If you have ideas on how to keep students involved going into the holidays, bring those to share. Hope to see you there. Roy What you missed: Robert shared a toy, sold at one time as a Zoom. Great for teaching about vector forces. Jim shared some windup Gobots? his daughter had bought from the MIT store. Marianne shared ideas she had gathered at a bio ed conference about what background researchers would recommend-- Math, stats in particular. She also discussed creating an online science fair (spin off from the Google version.) She and her husband hope to have this going this year and are looking for ideas and volunteers to help judge. Roy shared using a sponge gun for projectile motion, conical pendulum and vertical circular motion. He also shared a toy called Flashscreen that involves charging a flash (connecting to capacitors) and a screen of flourescent materials that glow for considerable time afterward. Mike shared images and ideas that the YSU group are studying involving films, CD/Blue ray patterns and there appearance using the electron microscope. Steve shared videos and still images from his vast collection that illustrate various physics phenomena. Sean shared using a water balloon launcher to share hotdogs with the fans at home football games to promote the physics department and give students first hand experience with forces and projectile motion.
