Colleagues:

YSU and The Youngstown Club have agreed upon a special reduced cost
membership for members of the YSU family, including active and retired
employees, current and former trustees, and various groups of
benefactors (e.g., life members of the alumni association, Kingbird or
higher members of the Penguin Club, WYSU underwriters, etc.). The
Youngstown Club, founded in 1902, is one of the oldest and most elegant
dining and social clubs in our part of the country. You will be
receiving more information about this special YSU membership opportunity
and an application form in the mail very soon . This mailing will also
invite you to tour the Youngstown Club facilities downtown at 201 East
Commerce Street on the 4th and 5th floors of the Commerce Building (at
the corner of Federal Plaza East and Walnut Streets) if you are not
already familiar with them. Stacey Renszel, General Manager, will
conduct the tours. The YSU package features significant reductions from
regular member costs. The initiation fee ($125 for affiliate members,
$250 for regular members) is waived. There is instead a one-time $30
application processing fee. The $150 monthly dues are set instead at
$30 monthly. The $30 monthly spending minimum is waived. YSU members
may also resign their memberships at any time without penalty.

In addiition to the huge John Young Dining Room, the Youngstown Club
features the John Young Lounge, the Grill Room (a 2nd, informal site for
dining and refreshments), a huge banquet hall, and a variety of meeting
rooms. (Department meetings or colloquia or other similar events can be
held in these rooms.) The Club is open Monday through Saturday for
lunch and Wednesday through Saturday for dinner. Reservations are made
by phoning 330-744-2177. Spouses and significant others, including
domestic partners, may use a YSU member's membership privileges. The
banquet facilities are often the preferred site of special events such
as wedding receptions, wedding anniversaries, retirement dinners, etc.

Those who choose to join will fill out an application form and send it
with a $30 check made out to the Youngstown Club to the YSU Development
Office which will certify the eligibility of the YSU applicant and
forward the certified application to the Youngstown Club.

The Youngstown Club has made this remarkably generous offer to the YSU
family to promote an infusion of new members. YSU is delighted to
support this goal as a way to strengthen ties with the downtown and
preserve a famous Youngstown institution.

Tom Shipka, Chair
Academic Senate
