Dear Senators,

I look forward to the first meeting of the Academic Senate this year on Wednesday, September 4th at 4:00 PM in the DeBartolo Hall (Room 132) Auditorium.

When you arrive, please be sure to initial next to your name on the roll sheet at the back of the auditorium.

If you have not received it yet, the agenda contains several discussion items – including an important proposal from the General Education Committee. I most strongly urge you to carefully read and consider what is being proposed. Dr. Joe Palardy will be presenting the proposal on behalf of the Committee.

There will also be two other discussion items of interest – one from Dr. Nathan Myers of the International Programs Office and another from Mr. John Hyden of Facilities Maintenance. Dr. Myers will present items related to the responsibilities of foreign study sponsors and Mr. Hyden will discuss the recent efforts to better secure classrooms.

In addition, nominations shall be sought for the position of Senate Chair and for positions in the Charter and Bylaws Committee.
Finally, I would like to make two general announcements that I hope you shall take into consideration.

First, we are need of a Senate Secretary. Our former secretary, Amy Flick, has left YSU for another position. If you have an interest in this position or have an idea of someone who might, please let me know. The person for this position does NOT need to be a current or former Senator.

Second, when you wish to speak, please move to one of the microphones set up in the auditorium and clearly state your name and department prior before you address the Senate. I should remind you that all statements are to be presented in a civil and reasonable manner.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Again, I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday.

Cheers,

Chet Cooper, Chair
Academic Senate
