Youngstown Early College (YEC) has officially opened its doors in Fedor
Hall.  This is a bold new model for high school education and Youngstown
City Schools.  For YEC to succeed we need to take it under our wings and
nurture it.  Nurturing anything requires that we look out for its
welfare.  We applaud the good things and we try to prevent it from
making any potential mistakes.

Please remember that the students have just turned 14 years of age and
do not have the maturity and experience of the average freshman college
student.  They have access to a larger campus and more open facilities
which can be tempting to explore.  Treat them as if they are your
children.  Guide them and advise them.

YEC is looking for mentors for the students.  If you are interested in
volunteering to help shape the life a young adult, please call Marcia
Haire-Ellis at 330-480-5876.  Also, she is looking for agencies and
organizations where the students can do 1-3 hours of service learning on
Thursdays. If you know of any opportunities for placement, please let
Marcia know.

Remeber, it takes a whole community to educate a child!
