RE: Black Faculty and Staff
The mission of the YSU Black Faculty and Staff Association is to provide an
organized support system to enhance diversity within the University, build
relationships, and develop a support system for employees and students.
On behalf of the current administration, we must implement the constitution
we currently have on file. Below please find the current constitution.
The Constitution
Youngstown State University
Black Faculty and Staff Association
July 13, 2001
Article I - Name
The name of the Association is The Black Faculty and Staff Association
herein referred to as BFSA.
Article II - Objectives
The objective of the Association shall be to promote better understanding
among the African American faculty and staff at Youngstown State University
and to bring the perspectives of this Association to bear upon the operating
procedures at YSU. To facilitate, as completely and as meaningfully as
possible, the educational and work experiences of students, faculty and
staff of YSU. To this end we shall endeavor:
1) To encourage the recruitment, interviewing, subsequent hiring, and
retention and professional development of Black faculty and staff members.
Must make this known to the upper echelon.
2) To influence the recruitment, retention and educational development
of Black students on the main campus and at the metro campuses of Youngstown
State University.
3) To influence the development and to maintain relevant academic
programming in the area of education for black student specifically, and
educational programming in general.
4) To develop mechanisms for increasing the mutual responsibility of
Black people to Black people, which is in addition to normal
responsibilities of members of Youngstown State's staff.
5) To influence and facilitate the coordination and cooperative
financing, when appropriate, of relevant socio-cultural program sponsored by
various groups (student, non-academic, etc.)
6) To foster better relationships among Africans, African Americans,
Third World people and all other members of the University Community and the
surrounding committees.
Article III-Membership
There shall be three types of membership in the Association: Regular,
Associate and Student. Associate and Student members shall have voice, but
not vote, in the business of the Association.
a. Regular Membership: Full-time and
Part-time Black
Faculty and Staff (Administrators and Civil Service Employees);
b. Associate Membership:
Community People and interested
others
c. Student Membership: Graduate Students
and
Undergraduate Student Leaders
Article IV - Officers
Section A
The officers of the BFSA shall consist of President, Vice-President,
Secretary and Treasurer.
Section B
The officers shall be elected at the May meeting of each year and shall
serve a one-year term of office, beginning on the first day of June.
Officers shall be elected by secret ballot of the voting members present.
All elected officers must receive a majority of all votes cast.
Section C
Officers shall be limited to three consecutive terms in the same capacity.
Article V - Duties of Officers
President - Represent the Organization when needed at University meetings,
etc.; conduct the BFSA monthly meeting.
Vice-President - Represent the Organization when the president is not
available; conduct the BFSA monthly meeting when President not available.
Secretary - Handle minutes of the meetings.
Treasurer - Handle finances of the organization - collecting dues;
depositing in bank account.
Article VI - Dues
Dues are $15 per academic year for YSU faculty and staff.
