Facing History and Ourselves and The Allstate Foundation will present

WHAT:

As the only American to stay in Rwanda during the genocide, Carl Wilkens
risked his own life to bring food, water, and medicine to orphans around
the capital city of Kigali. Wilkens was featured in Frontline's Ghosts
of Rwanda and The Few Who Stayed: Defying Genocide, an American Radio
Works documentary, which aired on NPR. During this Community
Conversation, Wilkens will use his story as a platform to discuss the
thought process behind making powerful decisions, specifically about how
people stand up for their neighbor and choose to participate in a global
community. Wilkens' focus will be on universal themes such as tolerance,
compassion and participation.
