The University of Michigan site of NSF National Nanotechnology
Infrastructure Network (NNIN) is actively seeking candidates to
participate in a faculty summer research experience program in
nanotechnology.
Last year the NNIN started a program called Laboratory Experience for
Faculty, in which 5 faculty were sponsored to spend a summer at one of
NNIN sites.
It was a highly successful program and will run again this summer. The
goal of the program is to expose and encourage faculty from
under-represented communities including minority and female faculty,
and faculty from underrepresented institutions to see what they may be
able
to accomplish in research through NNIN laboratories.
Selected faculty will spend approximately 10 weeks at one of the NNIN
sites, working closely with the site, and have a staff member of the
facility as an assigned host/mentor. While the summer is the obvious
period for this on-site experience, it can also be over week-ends or at
other times.
Candidates should be paired with a nanotechnology faculty at U-M, with
a project of mutual interest.
Each award will total $12K per participant to cover travel, housing
allowance and a participant stipend, all as participant support costs
involving no overhead.
If you know or have any contact with faculty that match the required
profile, please let me know and/or forward them this announcement. All
applications must be submitted before Dec. 15, 2008. Note that
candidates CANNOT be current or past users of the LNF, or be U-M
faculty. Candidates who are not interested for the coming year are
encourage to contact us so that plans can made for possible future
years of this program.
Selection will be made by NNIN program management based on suitability
and potential for success of the project.
