Subject: Graduate School Opportunities for African American Students

This evening from 6-9 PM, Leislie Godo-Soto from the Institute for
Recruitment of Teachers (IRT), Andover, Mass., will be here to give a
presentation on a remarkable opportunity for African American and
Hispanic undergraduate students. Students in their first, second and
third year at YSU and majoring in social sciences, humanities, science,
mathematics and education and who might be interested in teaching,
counseling or administration in K-12 or higher education should attend
this meeting.

Junior level students with a 3.0 GPA or higher can qualify to attend an
all expenses paid 4-week summer program which engages them in a
graduate-level curriculum of critical cultural and educational theory,
prepare them for the GRE and work on statements of purpose that will
become part of their graduate school applications. At the end of the
third week, the IRT hosts its annual recruiters weekend, attended by
more than 60 academic deans and graduate admissions representatives
from consortium institutions who are eager to speak with potential
candidates about their programs.

The consortium colleges/universities include: Yale, Harvard, Boston
College, Boston UNiversity, Columbia Teachers College, Cornell, Duke,
NYU, Purdue, Rutgers, Stanford, Tufts, University of Penn, UCLA, UC-
Berkeley; Univ. Michigan, to name a few.

If you would like to hear more about the program or know a student who
qualifies or could qualify because they are just a freshman or
sophomore, please invite them to attend.

I have attached most of the brochure (I couldn't scan the entire
brochure) for your review.

IRT Meeting:
Thursday, February 21, 2008
6-8 PM
Ohio Room
Kilcawley Center

Thank you.
