The Ottenheimer Library seeks a senior-level librarian to lead
departments directly involved in supporting the teaching, learning and
research needs of faculty and students. The Director of Academic
Services and Resources will provide vision for the departments of
Reference/Instruction, Collection Development and Access Services. The
successful candidate will develop innovative programs to facilitate
change and promote an environment of creativity and service.
The Director of Academic Services and Resources reports to the Dean of
the Library and works closely with other senior leaders who have
responsibilities for Technical Services and Technology, Administrative
Services, and Archives/Special Collections.
This is a faculty status, tenure-track position. The successful
candidate will be required to meet the Library’s criteria for promotion
and tenure, which include librarianship, service and
scholarship/research.
Located in Little Rock, Arkansas’ urban center, the University of
Arkansas at Little Rock is a state-supported metropolitan university.
The Ottenheimer library provides vital support to this urban research
university and the community at large.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be a leader who has a thorough
understanding of the research process and scholarly communication, as
well as a comprehensive vision of the roles of paper and digital
collections, and of professional library assistance in enriching the
research environment of the university. Departments that report to the
Director for Academic Services and Resources include Reference,
Collection Development and Access Services.
Qualifications
Required: ALA-accredited MLS; at least five years of professional
experience in a research or academic library in the areas of Reference,
Instruction and Collection Development; demonstrated understanding of
academic teaching and research needs; ability to view issues from a
broad library-wide perspective; excellent interpersonal, communication,
and planning skills. Demonstrated interest in scholarly and
professional activities.
Preferred: Experience with assessment of library services, strategic
planning, and project management; three years successful management and
supervision of librarians and paraprofessionals; experience with
integrated library systems; proven skills in the application of
technology to enhance effectiveness of library services; second
advanced degree; qualifications for appointment at the rank of
Associate Professor.
Library and University EnvironmentOttenheimer Library’s materials
budget is in excess of $1 million annually. Its materials holdings
include: nearly a half million monographs, 11,000 electronic books,
access to over 28,000 electronic journals, 3,600 active periodical
subscriptions, in excess of one million microforms, and more than 115
electronic databases. The Library’s integrated library system is
Innovative Interfaces.
