We are pleased to announce the first annual joint conference of Virginia
Commonwealth University's School of World Studies and the Mid-Atlantic
Conference of Latin American Studies XXVI in Richmond, VA, April 8-10.

The conference coincides with a year long lecture series at VCU, Crossing
Boundaries, which examine ways in which parameters are established,
supported, challenged, and crossed on individual, community, and global
levels. We invite proposals for papers that explore social, personal,
religious, and political boundaries and how they might be transcended.

The conference features former President and Nobel Peace Prize awardee
Oscar Arias as the keynote speaker, a two-day Latin film festival, and a
Saturday evening Latin dance.

Conference participants may submit papers to the refereed journal Latin
American Essays, MACLAS, or a possible edited volume.

Conference dues are $30.00 per year for those earning above $40,000.00,
$25.00 per year for those earning below $40.000.00 and $10.00 per year for
students. If you want to become a member of MACLAS, please go to the
MACLAS web site for details: http://www.maclas.vcu.edu/.

Conference information is posted online at the above address or:
