Capitalism, Nature, Socialism Anniversary Conference
Ecology, Imperialism and the Contradictions of Capitalism
July 22-24, 2005
York University, Toronto, Ontario

The Capitalism, Nature, Socialism anniversary conference entitled Ecology,
Imperialism and the Contradictions of Capitalism will encourage
interdisciplinary debates on critical political ecology and the current crisis
of societal relations with nature.
This conference draws contributors from a variety of fields, including, but
not limited to: critical theory, political economy, radical geography,
environmental philosophy, and social movement theory. Key participants
include Maria Mies (keynote), Ariel Salleh, Alex Demirovic, Joan Martinez-
Alier, Joel Kovel, Patrick Bond, Giovanna Ricoveri, Sam Gindin, Neil Smith,
Noel Castree, Daniel Faber, Tim Luke, and Elmar Altvater.
The conference is structured along the following themes:
(1) Marxism, Critical Theory and Ecology
(2) Ecosocialism, Feminism and Environmental Justice
(3) World Order, Imperialism and Global Ecological Politics
(4) Urbanization, Ecological Degradation and Political Ecology
The Capitalism, Nature, Socialism anniversary conference is organized in
conjunction with the International Political Economy and Ecology Summer School
jointly coordinated by the Department of Political Science and the Faculty of
Environmental Studies, York University.
