As I prepare to leave tomorrow for the SANA conference in Merida, Ben Vegara
<bvergara at sfsu.edu> is now handling full moderation
of this debate (until my return on 5/7). Before clocking out entirely,
however, I'd like to make the general suggestion that contributors remain
collegial and respectful in their disagreement.  This discussion will be
more fruitful if everyone makes an effort to avoid personal attacks and to
