While I agree with all the points Mr. Maack has presented, 
Vincent Lynn-Callo has done some excellent work on 
homelessness.  Also, the Judith Goode and Jeffrey Maskovsky 
book "New Poverty Studies", is another great starting point 
concerning poverty research.
