The New York Metro American Studies Association presents its annual
conference:
Public and Private in Urban Space
Saturday October 29, 2005 9:00am-5:30pm
at Hunter College, CUNY
Lexington Avenue at 68th Street
Some questions this conference will be asking are:
What are the boundaries of public and private in urban space?
How do people move in and out of urban space?
Where does preservation end and fetishization begin?
Can the city be a natural space? A pastoral space?
Is urban planning a contradiction in terms?
How are cities raced? Gendered? Sexed?
What's the relationship between region and city? City and nation?
