Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in Anthropology
(Ref.: RF-2005/2006-423)

Applications are invited for appointment as Associate 
Professor/Assistant Professor in Anthropology in the Department of 
Sociology, tenable from September 1, 2006. The appointment will 
initially be made on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility 
of renewal.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Social/Cultural 
Anthropology, with a good publication record and concrete future plans 
for publications. Preference will be given to those with a strong 
research interest in Asia, in particular East and South East Asia, as 
well as a proven capability in areas like religion, food and culture, 
tourism, gender and sexuality, diasporic studies and transnationalism. 
Proficiency in an Asian language would be an advantage. The appointee 
should be able to teach a range of core courses in Anthropology and 
Sociology including research theories and methods, and will also be 
expected to teach the introductory courses.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and 
experience will be offered. At current rates, salaries tax does not 
exceed 16% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end 
gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, 
totalling up to 15% of basic salary, as well as leave, and 
medical/dental benefits. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
