The Citizens Housing and Planning Council of New York announces:

The William R. Ginsberg Fellowships

Established in 2007, the William R. Ginsberg Fellowships are designed to
encourage public service and civic engagement for two key groups of
talented professionals: senior practitioners and policy makers, and recent
college graduates or graduate students.

The Fellowships provide support for original research and the opportunity
to explore new ideas and practices. Areas of research and empirical study
should be designed to improve the quality of life in NYC's neighborhoods
by focusing on housing, the urban environment and open space, education,
transportation, land use and zoning, or community development.

William R. Ginsberg was a pioneering environmental lawyer, NYC Parks
Commissioner, teacher, mentor, and tireless advocate on behalf of NYC's
civic life, the built environment, and the preservation of open space. He
served on the board of CHPC for more than four decades.

The Fellowship is supported by a generous gift from William R. Ginsberg
and his family.

The William R. Ginsberg Fellowships

William R. Ginsberg was committed to both public service and civic
engagement in his long career in government, law, and academia. The
William R. Ginsberg Fellowship is intended to encourage careers in public
service and to advance research and creative thinking to improve the
quality of life in NYC neighborhoods.

The Senior Practitioner Fellowship

The Senior Practitioner Fellowship is designed to provide an opportunity
for original research and the development of new ideas by experienced
practitioners and policy makers for up to one year. Practitioners with at
least 10 years experience in government, law, academia or not-for-profit
sector are eligible to apply. Areas of research and empirical study should
focus on housing, the urban environment and open space, education,
transportation, land use and zoning, or community development.

We will work with the selected applicant to finalize a research study and
obtain funding. Technical assistance, office space, archival access and
other support will be provided. The Fellow will have the opportunity to
present the research at a practitioners' forum organized by CHPC or one of
its partners. CHPC will publish the research results and disseminate the
findings to its network of board members and industry associates.

The Student Professional Fellowship

Students who have recently completed undergraduate or graduate work in
public policy, urban planning, environmental studies, architecture, urban
studies, or related subjects or those pursuing a graduate or post graduate
degree may apply. The Fellowship is available for Fall, Spring, or Summer
semester. A stipend will be provided.

The Student Professional Fellowship is intended to encourage public
service and civic participation. The Fellowship will provide
opportunities to assist our Senior Practitioner Fellow with research, work
on CHPC projects, and will provide exposure to a broad range of
disciplines through contact with our Board of Directors. A research/work
experience program will be created that provides the Fellow with tangible
projects and varied experiences with developers, not-for-profit leaders,
zoning and land use experts, bankers, architects, planners, and lawyers
involved in housing and community development.
