article entitled 'Neoliberalism on Crack: Cities Under Siege in Iraq' (in 
volume 11, issue 1, 2007), in which Schwartz turns attention away from the 
spectacular glitz of the war and instead focuses on the evidence culled from 
alternative media, the back pages of the daily press, and from U.S. 
government sources to document the darker and ultimately more damaging 
corrosion of the paradoxically entitled "reconstruction". In effect a 
comprehensive dismantling of the economic and social infrastructure of Iraq, 
which once boasted the most advanced, medical, educational and 
transportation system in the Middle East.
