                  San Francisco State University
                  Anthropology Department
                  Department Chair Position

The Anthropology Department at San Francisco State
University
invites applications for a full or associate professor
position with a possibility of tenure. The successful
candidate will begin serving as department chair at the
time
of appointment, effective Fall 2008. While the area of
specialization is open, the department is especially
interested in enhancing the areas of Archaeology and
Cultural
Anthropology. Experience and interest in Urban, National,
and
Global issues in Anthropology are especially welcome, as
is a
commitment to diversity as an educational goal. Candidates
should have experience as chair or equivalent
administrative
experience to build a dynamic program with urban-applied
and
social justice orientations. Knowledge of NAGPRA issues is
desirable. A strong research and publication record is
expected. There are approximately 200 students in our BA
and
MA programs in cultural anthropology, biological
anthropology,
archaeology, and visual anthropology. The Treganza
Anthropology Museum, one of the few on the West Coast, is
another great resource. We cross-list courses and
co-sponsor
activities with many departments and institutes such as
the
Human Sexuality Studies Department, the Biobehavioral
Research
Center, the Global Peace, Human Rights and Justice Studies
Program, the Pacific Asian Studies Program, and the Public
Research Institute at SFSU. For further information, visit
our
