ANNOUNCEMENT OF A VACANCY
TENURE-TRACK POSITION IN
SOCIOCULTURAL ANTHROPOLOGY

Beginning Fall Semester 2009

Deadline for Application—October 15, 2008


California State University, Sacramento invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor beginning August 2009. We seek a sociocultural anthropologist with specialization in political or legal anthropology, whose scholarship broadly explores human rights as a global discourse and as an arena for asserting human agency. Geographic area open. Candidate must have an active field research agenda that engages one or more of the following topics: indigenous rights; violence; criminality, displacement; citizenship; biopolitics or governmentality. Successful candidate will be required to develop an upper division undergraduate course in the anthropology of human rights and to teach a range of undergraduate and graduate offerings. University-level teaching experience and a record of publication preferred. Ability to teach courses in Culture Theory and Ethnographic Analysis a plus.

Candidates must be available for initial interviews at the AAA meetings in San Francisco. Applications must be postmarked no later than October 15, 2008.
