The recent news item of local currencies, by Matthew Cardinale, mentions 
the Ithaca Hour as the oldest local currency in the U.S. and that 
"numerous local currencies have . . . based their model on the Ithaca 
Hour." The journal, ETHNOLOGY, published an article on the Ithaca Hour, 
"Special Money: Ithaca HOURS and Garage Sales" by Gretchen M. Herrmann , 
which appears in Volume 45 #2 (SPRING 2006).
