Apologies for cross-postings. I'd be grateful if you could forward this advert
for a PhD studentship here at Leicester to any interested candidates. Please
note that we're looking for students who already have, or are about to obtain,
a Masters-level qualification.
ESRC-funded +3 PhD studentship on 'Youth cultures in new urban places'
Applications are welcome from eligible candidates for an ESRC-funded +3 PhD
studentship. The PhD is attached to a three-year project exploring young
people's experiences of new urban places (e.g. eco-towns and sustainable
urban extensions). The successful candidate would be based within the
Department of Geography at Leicester, working in new urban places in the
East Midlands.
The PhD will explore the processes, practices and places of young
people's 'cultures' within new urban 'sustainable' communities in the context of
recent urban expansion in the UK. The definition of 'culture' will be left open at
the project's inception. However, cultural policies/practices may include:
public/civic art; community centres; community festivals/events; informal
gatherings. Within this broad context, the project will focus upon young
people's creative agency and participation in the cultural life and lifestyles of
new urban communities.
The precise project aims will be negotiated with the student. Only UK/EU
residents may apply for this post, but for detailed eligibility information and
further details about the PhD please follow the link below and/or contact the
Principal Supervisor for the PhD, Dr Peter Kraftl: pk123 at le.ac.uk; or +44 (0)
116 252 5242.
The PhD is available to start from 1st May 2009 or as soon as possible
thereafter.
