The Mahoning Valley Historical Society (MVHS) seeks an intern for spring
semester 2007 to help process and exhibit parts of the Youngstown Area
Jewish Federation (YAJF) Archives collection. The intern will sort
archival materials into proper categories by subject and format;
re-house objects using archival-quality storage materials; catalog
materials according to established MVHS and YAJF Archives catalog
systems; create digital records for each item in the MVHS collections
management database; and create digital images of each object for
website usage, exhibition and other future educational programming uses.
The intern will write brief articles relating to YAJF Archives objects
for inclusion in the YAJF Archives section of the MVHS website.  The
intern will assist MVHS staff with organization and installation of a
display case exhibit, based on objects and images from the YAJF Archives
collection, at the Arms Family Museum of Local History.
                                 
The successful candidate should have a willingness to learn current
standards in museum collections management and cataloging methods, and
be comfortable working with digital photography and database entry. Must
possess excellent organizational and communication skills, and be
willing to work in a cooperative, team-based environment.
 
Qualifications: Senior or graduate level student in Judaic studies,
applied history, history, or related field with relevant experience.
 
Stipend and Hours: A stipend totaling $900.00 will be paid in three (3)
installments during the semester.  The internship totals 150 hours, or
approximately 10 hours per week over the course of the semester.  Intern
hours should be completed during regular MVHS office hours (Monday -
Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.).  Other scheduling arrangements may be
made at the discretion of MVHS staff.
