1. Sorry I missed this, Sylvia. As we near midterms, "my plate runneth
over" with 190 students in Intro to Soc. alone.

2. I just showed a film called "Merchants of Cool" to students in my
Introduction to Sociology class. The film examines how the soft drink
Sprite is marketed to the hip-hop generation, using hip hop artists in
ads. (Today's class discussion reveals that many of my Intro. to Soc
students recognize the exploitation involved in this. Thank goodness.)
This film can be downloaded from the Frontline website.

3. Lastly, sociologist, Pat Hill-Collins' book "Black Sexual Politics"
provides and indepth analysis of hip-hop. (Incidentially, Pat cites
Cornel West quite a bit.)

Walk well
