Please place a hold on your calendar for an important campus discussion on
June 8th from 10:30 a.m. to noon, in the Board of Trustee Meeting Room in
Tod Hall.

As you all know, the University celebrated its centennial anniversary last
year and is faced with significant challenges as we begin our second century
of service to the region, the state and the nation. Over the next several
years we will be charged with a significant institutional market
repositioning that can realize the goals and objectives outlined in three
significant documents: Youngstown 2010; the University's Revised Mission,
the 2007-2013 Academic Strategic Plan and Vision, and Core Values approved
in December 2008; and Ohio Board of Regents Chancellor Eric Fingerhut's
Strategic Plan for Higher Education 2008 -2017.

In preparation for this important work, the Office of Marketing and
Communications has partnered with SimpsonScarborough, a Washington,
D.C.-based marketing research firm, to conduct an initial qualitative study
that reviews communications and marketing efforts across campus; and to
conduct depth interviews with prospective traditional and adult students and
alumni.

Principals from SimpsonScarborough will be presenting their findings and
engaging the campus community in a discussion of what the results of this
preliminary research phase suggest for the campus's communications,
marketing and day-to-day activities. In addition, they will be asking for
input on the second stage of research, which will include a major
quantitative study with prospective students and alumni. This quantitative
phase of research will provide vital data to benchmark YSU's current market
position, as well as offer clear direction for the development of our
marketing messages, geo-demographic targeting and creative development.

Please plan to join the conversation.

Thank you,

Mark Van Tilburg, Executive Director of Marketing & Communications
