The Cortland Savings and Banking Company has been proudly serving individuals since 1892. Independent and locally owned, Cortland Banks is a full-service state bank providing commercial and retail banking services. Business is conducted at a total of 14 offices in Ashtabula, Mahoning, Trumbull, Geauga, and Portage counties. Cortland Banks employ approximately 177 people.

 

Currently, we have two positions which are open: 

§  Financial Analyst 

§  Securities Analyst

Financial  Analyst:

Be responsible for providing analytical and technical expertise for the Investment, Treasury and Accounting Departments.  The analyst will play a role in the measurement and management of the Company's Asset-Liability position, interest rate risk position inclusive of market value of equity.  The position will focus on providing bond accounting data and other balance sheet information to third party services for the purpose of running advanced portfolio monitoring reports.  These reports will be used by the Chief Investment Officer and Chief Financial Officer to determine balance sheet strategy. 

 

The Financial Analyst will also assist the Chief Financial Officer and Assistant Controller in preparing regulatory Call Reports, Forms 10Q and 10K and will prepare supporting schedules relating to among other things; risk weighted assets, Risk Based Capital, Tier I Capital and assets pledged.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE FINANCIAL ANALYST: 

§  Coordinate outsourcing of or build and maintain simulation models used to create NII and evaluate Earnings at Risk and Market Value of Equity

§  Use advanced portfolio monitoring reports and/or employ metrics to produce profit enhancement/risk reduction strategies for the Bank.

§  Develop interest rate risk profiles to assist with measurement of the risk profile and for regulatory exams

§  Be proactive in the development and constant improvement of the measurement process of the balance sheet profile for the Bank

§  Consistently, update A/L and Treasury staff on recent developments and research pertaining to asset/liability management, risk management, and other pertinent areas of the business

§  Participate in accounting and finance seminars and industry conferences as directed by the Chief Financial Officer and the Chief Investment Officer

§  Perform financial analysis of investment and general ledger account detail

§  Other duties as requested

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS/SPECIFICATIONS:

§  1-3 years minimum of accounting or financial related industry experience

§  Completion of undergraduate core program in business administration (i.e., public accounting or finance)

§  Skill in use of computer terminal; calculator

§  Experience with Sendero or other Asset-Liability software preferred but not required

 

Securities  Analyst: 

Be responsible for maintaining the detailed bond portfolio subsidiary ledger and assisting the CIO in performing pre-purchase analysis in conjunction with investment policy.  Reconcile bond portfolio ledger to general ledger totals.  Reviews & analyzes various investment securities (e.g. collateralized debt obligations and trust preferred securities, Municipality and agencies) for fair market valuation, credit quality and potential impairment.  Periodic detailed analysis of Trustee and broker cash flow analysis, deferral/default summaries, stress test analysis and issuer financial reports will be performed for structured investment products.  Analysis & evaluation of these securities will also be performed to determine accounting treatment under accounting guidance including FAS 157, FAS 115, and FAS124 as well as compliance with appropriate regulations.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE SECURITIES ANALYST I: 

§  Ability to define problems; collects data, establish facts & draw valid conclusions.

§  Review & interpret financial records & journals

§  Handle sensitive inquiries & develop good rapport with government & business officials.

§  Prepare detailed reports regarding securities investigations.

§  Other duties as requested
