Urban Affairs and Social Policy -- Assistant Professor

The University of Washington, Tacoma invites applications from qualified
individuals with a background in Urban Affairs and Social Policy interested
in joining a growing undergraduate program in Urban Studies. The program,
established in 2001, takes an interdisciplinary approach to urban issues,
has strong research and service ties to the local community, and includes an
international focus through faculty research interests, study-abroad
initiatives, and on-campus curriculum.

The position will be filled at the Assistant Professor level. Applicants
should have teaching expertise in two or more of the following areas: urban
bureaucracies and government, social issues/policy, urban social movements,
housing, ethnicity and migration, globalization and economic restructuring,
and a regional or topical international specialization (e.g. the Latin
American city, European urbanization, slums and squatter settlements,
comparative urban structure, etc). The successful candidate will be expected
to demonstrate excellence in teaching, to engage in community outreach, and
to maintain an active research agenda. A Ph.D. in Political Science, Public
Administration, Urban Studies, Sociology, Urban Planning or a related field
is required. One of three University of Washington campuses, UW Tacoma is an
urban campus offering upper-division and graduate programs to a diverse
student population. The campus is located in new facilities in downtown
Tacoma and, since its founding in 1990, has steadily increased in size.
Faculty and students at the University of Washington, Tacoma benefit from
the many resources of the University of Washington, Seattle located just 30
miles to the north.
