Cuba to Look at African Diaspora

Santiago de Cuba

Academics and diplomats from several countries will
talk about the African Diaspora in a March event,
sources of the African Cultural Center Fernando Ortiz
reported.

The meeting will give continuity to the South African-
African and Caribbean Union Conference of Diaspora,
carried out in Kingston, Jamaica, in March 2005 and
precedes a similar forum in Africa this July.

>From March 12 to 16, the IX International Workshop of
Africa in the Caribbean will be held, a new call to
artists and researchers about the mark that continent
has made in the Americas.

The problems and perspectives of African descendants in
the current times and research in that area by the
Cubans Fernando Ortiz and Romulo Lachatañere will be at
the center of analyses.

The impact of the liberation movements in those nations
on both sides of the Atlantic has joined people from
diverse latitudes, due to the new conception of
Diaspora that point to unity, sovereignty and identity.
