William Thompson PhD Scholarships (Two)


Applications are invited for two 3-year funded PhD Scholarships based in the 
Department of Applied Social Studies.

Applications for post-graduate research that build on existing departmental 
research themes are particularly welcome.  The departmental research themes 
are:

Social policy, state and civil society
'Race', gender, sexuality and disability
Social professions and children's studies


The studentships will commence from April 1st 2007. The two successful 
candidates will be based in the Department of Applied Social Studies and 
will receive a scholarship of ?12,000 per year (inclusive of fees).

The successful candidates should hold a first or upper second class honours 
degree in a social science discipline.  A relevant mMaster's degree and/or 
the completion of research methods training at Master's level will be 
advantageous.

Applications should include: a curriculum vitae giving full details of 
qualifications and experience; a written statement of interest/motivation 
(1000 words); a research proposal including research question, theoretical 
framework and methodology (2,000 words); two letters of academic 
recommendation; and certified copies of undergraduate and post-graduate 
transcripts.  Closing date for applications: February 12th, 2007.
