 (De)Constructing Urbanities: Opportunities and Challenges in African Cities

Call for Papers for Spring conference at UCLA

Location: Los Angeles, California
CFP Deadline : February 15, 2008

Submissions: To encourage discourse on the challenges and opportunities 
facing Africans in the post-colonial context of urbanization, the African 
Activist Association at UCLA is hosting a symposium to examine new 
configurations of African cities. Possible topics could include: public 
policy and administration, public health, demography and mobility, 
architecture and art of the city, youth culture and music, film and 
performance art, religion and spirituality, or law. Abstracts or 
descriptions of the presentations should be no longer than 250 words and 
should include contact information, name, mailing address, telephone number, 
affiliation, department, and email address. Participants will have the 
option of submitting, at a later date, copies of their presentations to be 
considered for publication in Ufahamu: A Journal of African Studies.

Eligibility: Although we strongly encourage graduate students, we also 
welcome submissions from undergraduates, professionals, post-doctoral 
researchers, lecturers, professors, activists, and practitioners. Papers and 
presentations on topics related to Africa in ALL DISCIPLINES and from ALL 
INSTITUTIONS, PROGRAMS and ORGANIZATIONS will be considered.
