Women and Gender Studies/African Studies Tenure Stream Faculty Position



The Women and Gender Studies Institute (WGSI) and the Program in  
African Studies at New College, Faculty of Arts and Science,  
University of Toronto, invite applications for a tenure-stream  
position at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin July 1, 2009.



The successful candidate will have a research program and teaching  
experience in feminist studies with a focus on Africa. We especially  
encourage applications from scholars in any discipline who will  
enhance WGSI's strengths in transnational feminist studies and the  
existing  African Studies Program at New College.  We would welcome  
expertise in the following areas, but not limited to: postcolonial  
studies or literature; cultural production and media; migration and  
diasporas; economics, geography, and the politics of the region.



The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. completed or near  
completion in Women and Gender Studies, African Studies, or any  
relevant area, demonstrated potential for excellence in research and  
in teaching. We anticipate a teaching load equivalent to two full-year  
courses. The majority of the teaching and administrative  
responsibilities will lie in WGSI (70%), with one half course and  
light administrative responsibilities in the African Studies program  
(30%). Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
