THE MAHONING VALLEY COALITION OF CONSCIENCE
October 11, 2006
Dear MVCC partners and supporters,

The lesson of Rwanda is among the reasons to demand that the world not
acquiesce again to genocide. I hope that all of you will be able to
hear Justine Mbabazi’s story. MVCC will be there with literature and
wristbands to remind everyone in attendance that the situation in
Darfur is still dire. Please spread the word (and let me know if you
can help with the table at the Monday event).

An international lawyer and gender expert, Justine Rukeba Mbabazi is
one of the new female leaders in Rwanda. Her achievements are many—a
lawyer who drafted Rwanda's first legislation against gender-based
violence, former country director of the American Bar Association in
Rwanda, and pro bono worker for a movement in Rwanda that brought the
rights of women to the forefront of national politics after the 1994
genocide, Ms. Mbabazi played a critical role in the debate of gender
equality in Rwanda’s new constitution. As an international consultant,
Ms. Mbabazi is presently a trainer and a mentor of the first team of
female defense lawyers in Afghanistan.
