Assistant Professor in Sociology/Anthropology in the Department of Sociology
(Ref.: RF-2007/2008-321)

Applications are invited for appointment as Assistant Professor in
Sociology/Anthropology (2 posts) in the Department of Sociology, from
as soon as possible on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the
possibility of renewal.

The introduction of the 4-year curriculum has brought exciting and new
directions to the Department of Sociology. As a result, we are
expanding and recruiting scholars whose research and teaching
interests match our new orientations.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Sociology/Anthropology,
with a good publication record, concrete future plans for publications
and some teaching experience. The ideal candidate should be able to
teach a range of courses in Sociology/Anthropology, including
introductory courses, theories, research methods, class and
inequalities, and family and gender. Preference will be given to those
with a strong research and teaching interest in Asia, as well as a
proven capability in at least one of the following areas: 1) Global
Migration, Transnationalism and Development, 2) Culture, Media and
Heritage Studies. The appointees will be expected to contribute to the
full-time and part-time undergraduate and postgraduate degree
programmes in the Department. Information about the Department can be

Annual salary for Assistant Professorship will be in the range of
HK$474,600 - 733,440 (approx. US$1=HK$7.8) (subject to review from
time to time at the entire discretion of the University). At current
rates, salaries tax does not exceed 16% of gross income. The
appointments will attract a contract-end gratuity and University
contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of
basic salary, as well as leave, and medical/dental benefits. Housing
