The University of Rochester invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in the anthropology of China. This position is one of several anticipated as part of a multi-departmental interdisciplinary initiative in the field of Chinese/East Asian Studies.

All topical specializations will be considered; ethnographic research that considers China in both a regional and global context is strongly encouraged. Ph.D., demonstrated excellence in research, and experience in teaching are mandatory. Candidates must be able to teach undergraduate courses in social and cultural anthropology at all levels and courses in their own areas of specialization. Successful candidates will also be prepared to participate in interdisciplinary research centers and graduate programs.

In their cover letter, applicants should describe their current research and their approach to teaching and send it along with their vita and the names of three referees to Robert J. Foster, Chair, Dept of Anthropology, PO Box 270161, Lattimore Hall, University of Rochester, Rochester NY 14627-0161. Review of applications will begin November 1 and continue until the position is filled.

The University of Rochester, an Equal Opportunity Employer, has a strong commitment to diversity and actively encourages applications from candidates from groups underrepresented in higher education.
